Extra Help Moving: The Future of Moving, Today.

1992-1993: While working for Father and Son Moving & Storage located in Jacksonville, Florida… We started our moving labor business by parking on the street across from U-Haul, Ryder, and Penske rental truck lots. When we saw a truck come out of a lot, we’d ask the drivers if they needed some “Extra Help Moving.” We told them we were professional movers looking for work on our off days. The funny thing is, we had “Rent-A-Crew Moving Labor” on the back of our shirts.

As the months passed, I felt the need to enhance our small side hustle and create a more professional image. To achieve this, we needed to obtain a business license, insurance, and other necessary requirements. Meanwhile, we continued approaching drivers with our offer of “Extra Help Moving,” despite the fact that our business license read “Helping Hands.”

1994-2001: My family relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, bringing me closer to my mother and brother, who had also moved there from Pennsylvania. During this period, I worked on the assembly line at Mack Trucks (Winnsboro, SC.) until I secured business licenses for Extra Help Moving Labor Services of America and started advertising in various local phonebooks. Moreover, a local newspaper named “The State” published a short article highlighting our venture. During this time frame, we had grown substantially, opening offices in Jacksonville Beach, FL, Charlotte, NC. 2001-2015: Following the housing market crash, we transitioned from multiple satellite offices to a single home office. Faced with significant challenges and determined not to declare bankruptcy, we restructured our approach. Extra Help Moving became the primary company, Moving Labor Brokers served as our platform, and Moving Labor Professionals formed our network. Each of these entities had its own website that connected to my command center: Extra Help MLSA, which I managed using a first-generation Verizon smartphone equipped with a stencil.

2016-2020, as technology continues to change, we must evolve as well. Due to the housing market crash, we no longer wanted or could afford to pay $15 to $40+ per click on advertising based on keywords and cities or zip codes. Investing that revenue into our own company projects (newrooms, SEO, dynamic page generator, nationwide movers job board, advertising agencies, etc.) We have lessons learned!

2021-2023: Based on 30+ years of knowledge and experience, we have developed a deep understanding of the moving industry and its evolving landscape. This expertise has enabled us to identify effective strategies that deliver real results without incurring exorbitant costs.
